Resonant Collaboration is convening a one-day learning event on support and safeguarding with young people (teens to mid-twenties) who are leaving, losing, or changing faith. This includes those trying to exit high-control religious contexts, where leaving can mean losing family, housing and community.
The day brings together youth-led research from Birmingham, safeguarding and education practitioners, faith and community leaders, and specialist organisations to explore what helps and harms, and what joined-up support can look like across settings, including for young people once they reach the age of 18.
Participating contributors include:
Young community researchers from Birmingham's Volunteering for Health.
Canon Dr Andrew Smith, Director of Interfaith Relations for the Bishop of Birmingham.
Razia Butt, Director of Thriving Families, Birmingham City Council
Luke Billingham, youth worker and researcher, Hackney Quest and Open University.
Global Centre for Contextual Safeguarding, University of Durham.
Humanists UK: Faith to Faithless, and more specialist contributors to be confirmed.
Refreshments and lunch provided.
